The government of Israel is about to decide to lock down 9 million people. Why?
As of today Israel has had 152,525 cases of Covid 19. 113,494 people have recovered and sadly 1104 people have died. 37,930 have fully recovered. 37,485 are ill with mild cases and 495(1%) are serious of which about 130 are on respiratory support.
In 2018 the annual death rate in Israel was 5 people/1000 population. With a population of 8.84 million. So the total deaths were around 44,000 people.
Of the 1104 people who are recorded as dying from Covid 19, how many would have died if they had not had Covid 19? What is the current death rate per 1000 population, is it significantly higher than in 2018? What treatment, if any, is offered to people who contract Covid 19? Should the population be taking adequate doses of Vitamin D, since it is known that levels above 40 ng/ml are associated with fewer cases and less severe complications from Covid 19. Should patients be taking Zinc which blocks the replication of the virus in infected cells? Should patients Quercetin, a plant Flavonoid which has antiviral effects? What about the bugaboo, Hydroxychloroquine? In India, a country with 3 times the population of the US, there are half the number of Covid cases and half again the number of deaths. Hydroxychloroquine is available over the counter. If we treat all positive cases of Covid 19 in the mild stage and can even half the number of serious cases, isn’t it worth a try?
So masks and social distancing may help prevent the “spread” but most of the cases are mild! Why lock down and destroy the economy, increase the social side effects , depression, suicide, domestic vilence, alcohol abuse, drug abuse? Are these “side effects” of lock down not significant?
Lock down reeks of hysteria, politics and the economic misogyny? There are people making money! Those that consult on how to Live with Covid and lock down are making money. The drug companies trying to invent a new drug or a vaccine, there are billions and maybe trillions to be made. Those that see chaos as their path to political power. This is in Israel as well as the US. According to some “experts” Israel is approaching herd immunity.
A lot has been learned about this disease in the past 10 months. The initial lockdowns gave time for the health care systems to catch up. In Israel we were strained but not overrun. The healthcare system definitely needs upgrading but locking down will not save us. Treating ill people at an early stage if only 50 % effective is cheaper than waiting until patients are so sick that billions upon billions must be spent on expensive, experimental treatments. Vaccines costing billions to develop and produce at best are 50 – 70 % effective and with what side effects!
Let’s treat early with less expensive and maybe partially effective treatments to save people now instead of shutting down the country in spite of the huge human and economic costs to the whole population.
